Our Founder’s Story
When Mariusz Mazurek arrived in London in 2003, he didn’t speak English but still had to carve out a career. His first job came through a small advert in a Blackheath newsagent offering odd jobs and gardening. With a borrowed bike, a handful of tools strapped to the frame, and a determination to deliver great work, he began building the reputation that would later define BDL Blackheath.
Those early days were full of challenges — language barriers, long hours and jobs that demanded quick learning and resourcefulness. But Mariusz discovered something that became the foundation of his approach: people value honesty, effort and a job done properly.
As his skills and reputation grew, so did the scale of the projects. Landscaping led to bathroom refits, lofts and basements. Each new challenge met with the same curiosity and commitment to doing things right. He gradually built a skilled team that shared his belief that every problem can be solved with persistence and care, and that lasting trust comes from keeping your word and standing by your work.
Today, with a 30-strong team and new premises in Blackheath, that same spirit still drives everything we do — learning, improving and delivering work we’re proud to put our name to.
